Yellowstone National Park Day 2 Adventure

Day 2 of Yellowstone National Park found us waking up at 5 AM again to start the day. The previous night was super rainy and lots of thunder and lightning. The forecast was saying rain all day in the park. It ended up that we didn't have much for rain until later in the afternoon when we were leaving the park so it ended up being another great day of exploration. We ran into some more wildlife on the road up to Sylvan Pass again. This time we saw some bighorn sheep rams.

We drove through Hayden Valley and finally got to see some buffalo cows and newborn calves. All of the buffalo that we saw the previous day were bulls. You will need to check out the Youtube video for that footage.

We then drove to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and checked out the views and waterfalls. The canyon is really breathtaking and photos do not do it any justice. This was probably my favorite part of the Yellowstone experience.

After that, we headed over to Norris Geyser. This was a really neat spot with tons of thermal activity going on. Steamboat Geyser. This is the tallest geyser in the world when it erupts. I believe it's height reaches around 400'. A lot of people were expecting an eruption that day so they were camped out on the decks to watch it. It looked like they were prepared to wait it out. I checked back later and it did erupt that day around 5:30 PM. It would have been super awesome to see! Back at the parking lot, a lot of the cars had various tarps on them to protect them from the mud and debris from the eruption. Once again, check out the video for more footage of that experience.

We then headed over to Mammoth Hot Springs. We spotted a grizzly sow and her 2 cubs on the way there. We then took in the sights at Tower falls and hiked down to the Yellowstone River below Tower Falls.

We headed out of the park in the rain through Lamar Valley. This is where the brunt of the buffalo cows and calves were. We didn't see any wolves however. They like to hang out there.
